Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), causes an acute, highly contagious upper respiratory tract infection of turkeys and chickens. In turkeys, the virus causes a disease known as turkey rhinotracheitis.This disease can occur from a very young age in turkeys and is characterised by snicking, rales, sneezing, nasal discharge, foaming conjunctivitis, swelling of the infraorbital sinuses and submandibular edema.
